I use the rope in the same way that Mark's nephew does. There is nothing erotic about it. It hurts and it chafes leaving the area raw and painful which greatly reduces the temptation to commit sexual sins. It is very effective...much more so than anything else I do to fight the urges.

Having found it quiet hard to get hold of suitable material, I have just made a very effective one from jute/hessian sack that I found on ebay. It was a simple process to cut a hole for the head and arms, and it provides full body mortification coming down to just above the knees. I wear it either under a track suit top when out and about in public or with a simple rope belt around the waist when performing barefoot penance or in preparation for chastising the flesh.
