how would one go about procuring one of those?

Try e-bay or any Company dealing with second hand items.

Hope this helps...

Certainly you can buy on ebay if you want - but a piece of wood to lay across a carpeted floor and an ordinary table will serve just as well if cash is short. It's what I use :D

i have also found that praying in somewhat of a "hard" posture of the body can be of advantage. One such posture at my prayers is that of praying upon the knees with both arms extended wide in the form of a Cross.i was taught this by a very holy Priest years ago in my teens. This "cruciformed" posture of the body while at prayer very quickly becomes a mortification that pleases the Hearts of Jesus and Mary all the more.Over time and pracrise one can pray in this posture as long as they wish...it is a wonderful mortification.

Dear Friends,

I frequently use the leg, arm and waist cilice's while practicing meditation, precisely for the reason that I know that I will eventually feel great pain in my knees, legs, etc. To wear the cilice means that the pain of the body is a given to start with, so I can deepen my mind and forget about the body. When the pain in the legs arise, it is just joining the other forms of pain from the cilice, and it serves as a reminder of the weakness of the flesh, and how one's spiritual intent must overcome that weakness.
