Re: The harder you try...

Ollie, I think your analogy is pretty good. What you described is often called Rating of Perceived Exertion - as I am sure you are aware - in endurance sports circles. In fact, the great cyclist Lance Armstrong often used this way of measuring his performance in Tour de France time trials...but, I d...

Re: The harder you try...

I think it is important to clarify that satan CAN and DOES use Scripture against us. See Mt 4:6-7. Remember, "he is...the father of lies" (Jn 8:44). There are no rules for him. He will say and do ANYTHING to get you off the spiritual path. Many Saints have even reported him appearing to ...

Anyway, the ideas about prayer and the exercises f...

Re: Angular chains

Hmmm. The one thing about the humility of saints: it doesn't allow for them to describe their particular penances. I respect this, of course, but it makes it tough when trying to learn about specific penance. Anyway, it was St. Josophat I was reading about (http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/08503b...

Angular chains

Hello all,

I was recently reading about a particular Saint. The biography mentioned as part of his penance the use of an angular chain. I don't know what this is. Can anybody explain?

Thanks.

Peace be with you.
